Xero Payroll Solution - this brief was aimed at collaborating with Xero to find issues with their current payroll system and remedy the identified problems through a user experience based application.
This application was designed to target the pain points employee's and employers experience day to day performing basic payroll tasks. The primary function of the application is to simplify basic tasks such as clocking in and out, entering and submitting time-sheets, and approving payslips.
The application has a unique function where you are able to track your employees from the moment the clock in. This allows the employer to validate any hours the employee has worked as well as maintaining and building a trust based relationship between employee and employer.
Auckland Transport Way-finding solution - was inspired by the lackluster amount of way-finding between the Grafton Train Station and Auckland Hospital. The way-finding solution is made from 3M vinyl wrap rated for outdoors use. The wrap is then covered by a thicker, grainy vinyl with a outdoor foot traffic rating. This is to protect the under vinyl from being removed as well as ensuring the surface is grippy and non slippery.
The way-finding solution aims to connect users between the Grafton Train Station and Auckland Hospital. Providing walking and cycling times with directions to follow. These graphics would be placed roughly 100-200m apart from one another to provide optimal directions to the end destination. The way-finding solution would also show the user hot spots through the area. Things such as cafe's and the Auckland Domain.
Not only does the way-finding solution connect Grafton Train Station users to the Auckland Hospital. It also connects users to other points of interest around the area. The way-finding solution is visually appealing to look at, it breaks up the journey walking between these hot spots as users look down to it.
Zig Light - This free hanging light was created for a project collaboration by Douglas & Bec. The inspiration came from beautiful wall hanging lights that had a strong visual appearance from the bottom looking up.
The light is purposed to be hung high above the ground giving off strong glowing lighting that draws you in. Each of the arms can be re-positioned to create a different shape. The height and position of the light can be altered by adjusting the wire supports towards the top. The light can take on any shape or form, allowing the area inhibiting the light to have something that can be changed as apposed to your traditional static light.
SnowCase - was designed for a brief with Snow Planet. SnowCase aims to provide users with an easy to use solution for storing your smart phone on the arm whilst hitting the slopes.
Pain points where identified around users struggling to use their smart phones with big gloves on. The smart phones would often be submerged in big bulky jackets and often impractical to take out.
SnowCase is a fully snow-proof solution that allows you to use your smart phone through the water-proof cover. SnowCase provides the user with a complete experience and allows you to stay connected when hitting the slopes by storing the smart phone on your arm. Never again will you need to remove gloves and search through your jacket to find your phone when its ringing.
Alligator Clip Design - The alligator clip was designed for a brief by Active Components. The clip needed to be able to secure onto wire fences on farms and battery terminals. The original clip was small and difficult to assemble with wear and tear being a problem.
This is my answer to the brief, only having 3 parts that need to be assembled together as well as a living hinge that is folded from sheet metal. The alligator clip boats simplicity with its easy to assemble features.
The clip simply clicks into the 4 holes on each side providing a very solid contact once assembled. The wire then attaches from the back of the clip onto the flange on the living hinge. The wire is then passed through the strain relief to ensure it is not pulled off the contact whilst in use.
HoneyComb Wall Light - the light was inspired from a brief that required us to seek out recyclable materials and use them to create a type of light.
The HoneyComb light is made from 100% recycled materials apart from the LED lights and switches. Each of the LED's can be turned on or off to create amazing lighting effects. The HoneyComb light is intended to hung from a wall much like a picture frame.
The idea behind the light is to create visually stunning shapes and patterns using the LED's. Although the HoneyComb light was intended to be a visual piece, the strength of the LED's give practical function as well as aesthetic.
